Note on Second Life:
Second life is an internet based virtual platform created to allow users to enjoy various possibilities which otherwise would not have been possible in the real life. Second life launched on June 23, 2003 was developed by Linden Research Inc. and is a downloadable client program which enables its users to interact with each other through avatars thus providing a creative social networking service. Users can discover new possibilities, meet other users from across the world, socialize, and can also indulge in trade activities. Users regularly create new items/goods and services and buy and sell them in the Second life virtual markets. Second life has its own virtual currency called Linden Dollars (L$) which is exchangeable for real world currencies. This can be done through the Linden Exchange also called LindeX. Though the exchange keeps changing, as of Feb 2007 it was at L$ 266 = US $ 1. A small proportion of users derive net incomes from this economy, ranging from a few hundred to several thousand US$ per month.
