TCS bags Rs.1,110 crore contract from India Post; Zensar Technologies wins orders totalling $12 million

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), India’s largest software services provider, said it had won a Rs.1,110 crore, six-year contract from the department of posts for a modernization programme “to equip India Post with modern technologies and systems”.

The project will help the department achieve a wider reach through increased customer interaction channels and new lines of business, TCS said in a statement on Wednesday.
It includes developing and supporting mail, finance and accounts, human resource systems, and customer interaction management solutions.

“India Post has a vision of being a technology-enabled self reliant market leader and is looking to move from a government service provider to a customer-enabled world class service provider,” P. Gopinath, secretary, department of posts, said in a media statement. “We are looking to improve customer service in terms of service quality, speed and reliability of delivery, and improving operational efficiency and look forward to our partner, TCS, bringing leading and best Industry practices.”

Tanmoy Chakrabarty, vice-president and global head, government industry solutions unit, TCS, said the project would help offer “world-class delivery of postal services to Indian citizens.”
Mid-cap software services exporter Zensar Technologies Ltd also announced that it had won orders totalling $12 million on Wednesday. The orders, the company said in a statement on BSE, span the retail, insurance and manufacturing businesses.

At 12.21am, TCS shares were trading at Rs.1,513.50 a unit on BSE, down 0.06% from the previous day’s close. Zensar was trading at Rs.250.50, up 2.04%. The exchange’s benchmark Sensex was down 0.20% at 20,120.45 points.
