Zensar Foundation volunteers have been conducting community mobilization sessions at the Chandan Nagar community for more than a year.
Over time, the women have gained confidence in themselves and are now aware of their rights. They have come forward to independently form a self-help group to work towards the welfare of their households and the community at large. This is a milestone for Zensar and all other stakeholders involved.
The children from this community have also come together to form a Bal Panchayat (The word Panchayat refers to a local level justice system comprising of five leaders within the community to resolve any issues). Through the Bal Panchayat, children are aware of child rights. In the year 2014, the children formed a library and managed it. They also took leadership in cultivating a sense of hygiene in the community, working towards overall cleanliness of the community.
